Project 52 Dates-1: Running Errands Date

Image result for beer flights world of beer
Our  3 kids decided to drive to St.Bonaventure for the basketball game so we were free to do whatever we wanted to for the day... it was a Saturday, which of course means that we had tons of things to do around the house and lots of errands to run as well. I spent most of the the day cleaning the house and then in the afternoon decided to turn on the fireplace and curl up on the couch and take a nap. BLISS I tell ya! Where have naps been all my life?

When we finally got moving in the late afternoon, we started our 'date' by going through the drive-through at Tim Hortons to grab a coffee and then heading over to Sam's Club. We had a list of things we needed but we took a stroll through the store, talking about changes we wanted to make to the house and how certain things are on our 'someday' list. I'm a firm believer that anything can be turned into a date and dating has more to do with being present, in the moment and connected to one another, more than the actual physical location of the date.

Once we had finished at Sam's Club , we ran across the street to the mall. We needed to order our daughter's contacts for her from LensCrafters.

Then, we decided to go to the World Of Beer. We both ordered flights of beer and split a couple of flatbreads. It was lovely siting in the corner booth, talking, sipping our drinks and eating our food. So nice to just sit next to one another and talk.

There's something to be said for simple, unplanned, unforced dates. This date was incredibly low- key but also It was so lovely just to sit and talk to John. I went home feeling calm, and content. My heart filled with gratitude for the man that I spend my life with.

Project: 52 Dates

I could write about all of the benefits of date nights and how it helps build connection and keeps a marriage healthy and so on and so forth...I could cite research on the benefits of dating your spouse and how it helps in the battle against divorce; how dates can rekindle romance or at least make us feel human for a few hours...but I think most of us know all of that. We know how nice it feels to sneak away with our partners, how being on dates helps us to reunite, gives us the chance to have an adult conversation, to hear what the other is feeling or thinking without the interruptions. We know this...how could we not? This topic is splashed all over the covers of magazines and the topic of numerous self-help books and I've probably read most of them. That doesn't mean I've actually made dating my husband a priority.  I keep saying I'm going to do this. I have good intentions and even lists of over a hundred date night ideas; I am the queen of lists after all...but this year is going to be different. I am going to do this.
